This is one of the problem that wasted me a lot of time. None of the online Techs were able to solve it. I found a way to solve it. or it should be a miracle.
When i completed downgrading my laptop (dv2419us) from vista(nonsense) to XP (ok) i realised that I dont have drivers so I took the help of the hp online techs and got all the drivers required, thx to them. Typical installation pattern.
1. NVIDIA GeForce Go 6150 Graphics Driver for Windows XP.
2. WinFlash for HP Notebook System BIOS
3. NVIDIA nForce Chipset Driver and Network Controller
4. UAA drivers to enable the audio hardware
5. Conexant High Definition Audio Driver
5. Conexant HDAUDIO Soft Data Fax Modem driver
6.Broadcom Wireless LAN Driver
7. HP Quick Launch Buttons
8. Ricoh 5-in-1 Card Reader Driver
devices names may vary according to the model. But the punch line is first the chipset drivers and then the UAA and thennnnnnnn sound and then the rest.
Now the big problem is with windows. Windows does not detect the HD audio device on the laptop so u need the UAA driver to detect it. But surprisingly it wont detect even if you installed the UAA driver besoc.... Some win xp sp2 are not complete and you need to make a windows update for this. Certain Windows patch fixes this issue and you should be able to see your audio device in the device manager list.
When you are installing the audio driver if you are encountering a problem like 'Driver installation failed: Could not find the MEDIA device for this driver.' open your device manager and look into the System Devices. You should see a device with '!' named as PCI device. select it and update the driver( by either deleting and refeshing the list or right click and update driver). That will ask you for the driver location. Select the driver file setup directory from /Swsetup/sp#### and click ok. That should solve the problem.
