I have recently learned of a driver that is available that may make your pocket pc recognize an SDHC card. This driver was harvested from another brand of pocket pc.
I do not have an SDHC card, so I have not tried it myself, but I thought this tip was worth passing along. What I know about the driver:
It only works on WM5.0 pocket pcs
Users have confirmed that it works on the rx1950, the hw6900, and the rx5940
With the driver installed, your pocket pc will only recognize up to 4 GB of the space on an SDHC card (if you have a larger SDHC card, your pocket pc will not recognize anything beyond 4 GB).
Some users have reported issues with their pocket pcs recognizing the WIFI card (there may be a conflict)
You can download the driver at the link below (you will have to register to the XDA forum before you are able to download the file)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=310456&page=4
If the driver causes any problems for you, you should be able to uninstall it with no problem.
If you decide to install the driver to your pocket pc, please share your experiences here. Good luck!

I installed this driver and am using a San Disk 4 GB SDHC card in my Ipaq 5915. The card shows as having 3878.5 MB of total storage and I have 1960.0 MB of data on the card so far. I installed the data via my USB port on my desk top computer. The data includes both audio MP-3/WMA and .jpg photos. All data seems to be accesable. From time to time the Ipaq is a bit quirky when this card is first installed. For example, refresh rates can be slow or even freeze. Upon card insertion, the card is often not recognized until I do a reset, etc. But, once its running fine, and if I leave the card in place, it seems to function normally. No problems with WIFI or GPS. The only thing I have not tried is my BT keyboard. If I have anything else to report, I'll do it here. |

I have an 8gb ADATA CF card(purchased from Newegg). Works perfectly in my hx2490b. Actually, it even works in my old Dell X5...which is insane!
The concern lies with the SD cards. More specifically the SDHC (High Capacity) cards. Anything higher than 2gb is considered high capacity (at least that is my understanding). |

Julie, Just wanted to submit an update. I have a RX5915. I tried to use a 4GB SDHC PNY card. I loaded the SDHC driver. The 5915 sees the 4GB, BUT I had problems copying files. I also had to hit the reset button multiple times. It also altered my wireless connection. I wireless icon would turn yellow (but I still could connect to the internet). I will be returning the 4GB card to CC. I might consider buying the 4GB 150x Trandsend card. (non-SDHC). |

Since there are a couple of responses in this thread from users with hx2400s that report the driver did not work in their devices, I'd say the driver won't work in the hx2700 either. |

I have an HW6945 and have been trying several SDHC patchs from several user forums.
So far I got only the San Disk 4GB MicroSDHC working with full capacity (4GB).
I bought an San Disk 6GB MicroSDHC but with the SDHC patch it only shows 2GB. (Without the patch the card is not recognized).
Tried several patchs that claim full 6GB support but every user that got it working (with smartphones or PDAs from other brands) was running WM6, not WM5.
Anyone got 6GB or 8GB SDHC cards working in WM5 ? |

Hi, I have recently bought a SDHC 4Gb card which my rx1950 refuses to acknowledge, I've been to the web site mentioned and downloaded the .cab file.
Now I know that I'm not the brightest light in the IT field so how do I apply this .cab file, what steps/actions do I need to complete to apply this driver.
If it fails I don't mind blowing the lot away and starting afresh.
Thanks in anticipation

Ian,
you should follow the instructions on the web site you download the cab but it's really simple, just install as any other .CAB: - Copy the cab to the PDA. - Open File Explorer on the PDA and click on the .CAB. - Install on the Device (not on the SD). - The device will reset (reboot) and the SD should work after that.
If you want to rollback just go to the "Remove Programs" option and remove it, then reset.
Share your results here after testing the card.

Ian,
does your iPAQ run Windows Mobile 5.0 ? With the the 8GB SDHC it really shows ~8GB of space in "Total storage card memory" ? The card had more than 4GB of data when you tested ? Did you test reading and writing to it ?
Every success report so far with 6GB or 8GB cards were from people running Windows Mobile 6 .

I purchased a Sandisk 4GB UltraII SDHC class 4 card from Costco yesterday and suddenly found out that my hx2495b running WM5 doesn't like it. thanks to this thread, I followed the link above and then another link to http://eten-users.eu/index.php?showtopic=9410&st=45 and eventually downloaded the driver from there, it works flawlessly, right out of box, so far I have dumpped more than 2GB data (mp3, mp4, ebooks, games, etc) on the card and there are still more than 1.7G left (reported by WM5). Haven't noticed any problem while playing movies/music,reading books. or playing games. no side effect noticed either. |

Julie,
I have an HP RX5915 with WM5 with Sandisk 4gb sdhc card. Have tried this patch above with success. Able to load, use, etc. Only problem: have to soft reset each use to read card. You have heard about the issue. I tried the fixes associated with the original post on xda from here : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=344338.
It did not work. I did backup my registry, but somehow saved the new changes over it and cannot get it back. Is it possible to have a screen shot from someone what my original should look like? Under the SDMemory_Class mine had no High_Capacity. I have been able to recreate most of what was there by memory and the card data is available, but something is askew because it calls the card "Mounted Volume".
Any help would be much appreciated. |

I too tried the patch on my 5915 and found that soft resets were the norm for getting the card to be read; I am now using a "Super * Talent" 4G (60x) and have just purchased a Q memory (150x) 4G both non-HC and the Q memory was less $30.00 delivered. Both cards work well (and don't need the patch :)). |

Hi,
I finally got my San Disk 6GB microSDHC card working on my iPAQ HW6945.
The CAB with updated drivers for Windows Mobile 5 is:
SDHC_DRIVERS_FOR_C550_AND_N560_BY_GreateVK_AND_FreePK.cab
available from post #267:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=344338&page=27
and attached here in this post.
I have been using it for 2 weeks and the only issue is the standby problem: after the iPAQ comes back from standby you have to eject and insert the card again to be able to read or write from it.
I'll keep searching for any solution to the standby issue but at least now I'm able to use my 6GB card.

Hi cyberdog,
Thanks for your reply.
From what i read in posts in other forums the standby problem happens only with cards bigger than 4GB (6GB, 8GB... 16GB ?).
And just to be clear: to support 4GB SDHC cards the first SDHC.CAB that was released last year (and that started this thread) works fine. Only to support 6GB or higher that you need this other CAB that I posted before.

On my 6910 [ipaq; WM5] I am now running a SanDisk 8GB MICRO SDHC card with a MICRO-MINI SD adapter. I had to use both drivers above. After beginning by trying the second one [Leonardo Figueira, May 13th, above - no response at all] I then went back and installed them both [first Prof Julie Nov 1st 2007, then LF May 13th, - in that order] and then removed and re-inserted the card - and WOW it shows a full 8GB!
HOWEVER the file explorer only shows file names [that were already on the card] - and when I try to OPEN a file it seems to pretend there's nothing there, even though it shows the card populated by about 2.3GB. So still working on that one - perhaps I'll have to reload everything onto the card using the 6910/WM5 - but hope not.
As the card was loaded when in my 614c [which I couldn't get on with - and it wasn't compatible with the car's bluetooth setup [x-type jag] - but REALLY I actually was happy to go back to the 6910] then maybe this problem is due to the fact that the 614c is WM6 and the card was loaded on that and has now gone back to WM5 on the 6910... as I say work in progress... |

I take back my comments about the driver not working on the HX2495b. I later discovered that my PDA was simply not reading any SD cards. I got that working and last week I tried the SDHC driver again and it works great. It was really simple to install too: just drop it into the PDA and run it. That's it. Now I'm using a 4GB memory card and works great. |

I use a HP ipaq hw6915. I have tested a 4GB A-Data Micro/Mini SDHC SD card (Class 6), great price in a regular shop for 15 Euro. First I installed the drivers: SDHC_DRIVERS_FOR_C550_AND_N560_BY_GreateVK_AND_FreePK.cab I copied the data from my 2 GB card to the 4GB card via a cardreader on my WinXP PC. The iPaq reports 3.831 MB (4.017.094.656 B). The Pocket Mechanic Card benchmark gave good read and write results. But .. I could not copy data from the PC with Activesync and I could not save data from Internet with Pie. I deinstalled the driver and installed the drivers: sdhc.cab (the one Prof Julie started this forum). I can copy files now without problems, no other problems found until now. Memory shows 15318.50 MB. I have 8 GB installed and have no problem with access after all restart conditions.
This is fantastic! Kudos to all of you. You have my sincere thanks.

Woops... wish we could edit entries also :P
That documentation appears to be for Windows CE 6 and what this thread concerns is WM5 (Windows Mobile 5).
Also, it should be noted that solutions which call for modification of the registry could brick your device and should be used with caution. I'm sure most of us are aware, but couldn't hurt to mention it again. |

Class SDMemory_Class High_Capacity

Should the High_Capacity be subordinate to Class and on the same level as SDMemory_Class or subordinate to SDMemory_Class??

Hi cyberdog_hw6915,
did the registry tweak really solved the 8GB card standby problem on your HW6915 ?
I also have an HW6945 and creating this registry keys with "PHM Registry Editor" did not fix my problem with standby.
How exactly did you proceed with the registry ? The WM5 does not have the High_Capacity branch on the default registry, did you create it with all those keys on MSDN doc ? ("Dll", "Prefix", "IClass"...)

Hello, I was just about to make a follow-up report. Yes, the hack definitely allows the device to recognize and report on the full amount of memory whereas before it could not recognize anything above 2GB. Also, Before the hack, after sleep, shortcut icons and icons in "Programs" that resided on the SDHC card would disappear from the program folder and show as generic icons in the Today screen. After the hack, all the program icons display correctly after sleep.
However, some, but not all programs can access the SDHC after sleep, and some hang upon opening, requiring hard reset. I'm not sure if this is a component of programs not playing nicely with the hack or if I made a mistake or if the hack is faulty.
I'm going to try a different way to see if it fixes it and report back, but here is what happened to this point.
Here's what I did:
1. I had to bypass the "access denied" problem when editing the registry.
2. Created new key :"High_Capacity" subordinate of "SDMemory_Class".
3. Created new string with the 2 values:
Name: BlockTransferSize Data: 64 (0x000040) Name: DisablePowerManagement Data: 1 (0x000001)
{I THINK! see below}
4. Saved
I remember being confused about what goes in the Name field and the data field and think I decided on the above. I will check it later today when I have time and try a different way and, as stated, report back here unless someone else can post something definitive in the interim.
Again, as stated, there is definitely an improvement in that I'm not losing icons, but the programs hanging is still a problem. |

cyberdog_hw6915,
I suspect maybe you had a "false positive" with this registry tweak.
If you navigate on the "Programs" menu once BEFORE the standby the OS will cache the icons until other soft reset so the standby problem will not affect it (I always enter the Programs menu after a soft reset to avoid the missing icons after the standby).
To test, try this:
1- Soft Reset. 2- Wait for the device to boot (with card inserted). 3- Don't enter "Programs". Turn it off (Press the on/off button to go Standby) 4- Wait a minute. 5- Turn it on. 6- Go to Programs and see if your icons are there.
If you can't browse all the SD's folders with File Explorer after a standby then the registry tweak didn't work. (And I really think it does not work on WM5).

Leonardo, looks like you're right.
As an aside, I also did try 3 or 4 more variations of the registry entries as well as installing the WM6 SDHC fix .cab that's floating around, but all to no avail. I'm afraid I'm at a dead-end until someone can give us more data.
On the upside, it seems that mucking around in the SD classes registry area or installing that WM6 driver didn't have a negative affect on my device, although I'm always prepared with complete backups in case anything goes wrong. |

I did some further research last evening. I also have a TMobile Dash with WM6. I opened the registry and found the High_Capacity was a subclass to SD class. In addition the entries were identical in both classes. The interesting thing is that they were also identical to the entries in the WM5 SDclass.
On the WM5 system, I moved one entry at a time into High_Capacity, rebooted, and tested. It took a while but no problems were encountered.
That seems to leave two areas to cause problems: 1. One or both SDHC cabs is bad. 2. An outdated sdmemory.dll
Another interesting point is that in WM5 the sdmemory.dll is dated 4/25/2008 and in WM6 is dated 4/19/2007.
I hope this helps to troubleshoot the problems. BTW, I have a RX5915.

Charles,
what it the PATH of the registry key that you created on WM5 ? Is it like the MSDN doc ?
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Drivers\SDCARD\ClientDrivers\Class\SDMemory_Class\High_Capacity]
or like you said: "subclass to SD class" ?
Like this ?
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Drivers\SDCARD\ClientDrivers\Class\High_Capacity]
I tried creating in both places and they didn't work.
I wonder what is the difference between the WM5 on RX5915 and the WM5 in HW69XX...

Charles,
it does not work on HW69XX. :(
The only differences in the entries that you sent above are this missing entries: "FSD" and "IOCTL". Did they come in your default config or did you insert then ? What is the value of "IOCTL" ? It's missing from your post.
On the MSDN doc there is no reference to this entries but there are other entries that I had not tried yet like this:
;"IdleTimeout"=dword:7D0 ; 2000 milliseconds ;"IdlePowerState"=dword:2 ; 0 == D0, 1 == D1, etc.
And this:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Drivers\BuiltIn\SDMemory]
Do you have this key above ?
My registry don't have this SDMemory key but there is an SDHC key there, what about your registry ?

My MMC_Class also don't have this entries: "FSD" and "IOCTL". It seems your WM5 default configuration is different from the HW69XX's.
And what about this key
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Drivers\BuiltIn\SDMemory] ?
Do you have it ?
Do you have
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Drivers\BuiltIn\SDHC] ?

Charles, you stated "It took a while but no problems were encountered.", but have you actually tried sleeping your iPaq, then waking it, and then still had success accessing files or applications that reside on the SDHC?
I also have an HTC S630 (1 gen after your t-mob sidekick, IIRC, which is equivalnet to the HTC S620) running WM6, but I think the power management routines are completely different on the iPAQ. You can't "sleep" the HTC (or sidekick) like the iPAQ, which is where the problems arise - after awakening from sleep.Since the HTC doesn't sleep, it doesn't need special routines addressing it in the memory dll, or so I would think. |

Charles, I am really surprised these drivers work flawlessly for you. I have a rx5940 which is the same as a rx5915 (except for the amount internal memory). I have tried 12 different SDHC cab files and the only ones that enable my iPAQ to detect an SD card are indeed the two cabs linked to in this forum. However they both give suspend/resume errors. I have tried whatever registry settings possible to get rid of the suspend/resume bug, but to no avail. The bug also occurs for both normal SD cards and SDHC cards.
Could you please try the following for me: 1. Soft reset your PDA. 2. After booting, verify that you can indeed access your SDHC card. 3. Suspend your PDA (do not reset, just press the power button). 4. Wait one minute and resume your PDA (press the power button again). 5. Pop-out your SDCard. 6. Wait 10 secs and push in your SDcard again. 7. Are you able to access you SD card now?
For me, after step 6 my iPAQ doesn't detect the insertion of an SD card anymore. Only soft reset helps here.
Thank you! |

Lord Buzz, You caught it. The SDHC card flops after step 6. I also tried a plain vanila 4GB SD card and it flops at the same place. A 2 GB SD also flops.
As Sherlock Holmes would say, "The game's afoot."
Thanks for pointing this out. I will continue looking. Maybe this will boot HP into a fix.
However, having 16 GB available for storage is still fantastic. I have my entire Ebook library (about 10,000 books) on the SDHC and shall have reading where ever I go.

I went in and disabled the sleep control. I did a soft reset to ensure that every thing was kosher. I then did ten cycles of power off, wait 1 minute and restart. I never lost the SDHC card.
If I remove and replace the SDHC, it can be lost and require a soft reset to reacquire. I had to do the same with plain vanilla SD cards. It does not seem unreasonable to do a soft reset after changing cards. Thinking back, both the 2GB and 4 GB cards would disappear seemingly randomly and require a soft reset. I may have overstated the operation of the SDHC, but I have seen no difference in the operation of the rx5910 from before the mods were made. I still think that having 16 GB available is fantastic.

Very little impetus on HP's part, I think. I'm sure they'd rather have you just buy a brand new HP WM6 device instead of spending their engineering time and money making your old model forward-compatible. In fact, I'm pleasantly surprised that they allow this thread to continue to exist. |

FWIW, I've had identical behaviour w. my 5915 and an 8GB SDHC card; all data is recognised and everything works fine until the PDA suspends. After that, the card is lost and all attempted card I/O is exceedingly slow.
Charles, how did you disable the suspend? I'd like to try that too. |

Charles,
Thank you for your feedback. Maybe you're right: If the card remains responsive just as long as you don't remove it, it might be worth it. I do remember that I left the card in but after a night of sleep, the card became very slow in I/O. I will try again with both drivers and DisablePowerManagement fix. If that doesn't work, I am afraid I will keep bugging you with questions on registry settings!
Cheers. |

Here is what has happened in last couple of evenings.
I went into power settings\advanced and disabled the "Turn off device if not used for.." Performed a Soft Reset to ensure application. I used the system for various purposes for the rest if the evening and periodically checked storage card 2 with no problems. Before going to bed, I turned of the device and connected the charger.
This morning, I powered up and checked the SDHC immediately. The folders (subdirectories) showed up right away. I opened one folder and nothing displayed. I waited for a while to see if it was just slow. No response. Soft Reset and everything came up fine. I have been checking email, looking at the web, and reading an novel, periodically checking the SDHC with no problems.
A question then arises. Does Soft Reset do something that Power ON does not? It seems to me the boot process should be the same. Possibly, there is a solution there. Perhaps a small utility could be added to the start up which could cure the problem.
Who knows what some clever hacker can accomplish? |

However, they did say that HP had recently released some patches of interest. I haven't found any. Does anyone know anything about this? |

Charles, it could very well be that the support person at Resco doesn't really know what he/she is talking about. The only facility I know of on HP for updates or "patches" is by navigating to the "downloads" section specific for your device.
In your case, that would be here;
http://tinyurl.com/37rks3
and there hasn't been an update in about a year and a half. |

You are making it too complicated. To install the driver from a CAB file, just copy the entire file to your mobile device, then open up File Explorer, tap the CAB file and the drivers will be installed to the device. |

"i've also tried that as well. its coming up as a .zip file on my ipaq and a .cab on my pc for some reason."
I can tell you the reason right now: you did something screwy. As Prof. Julie pointed out, you're doing way too many things and it sounds like you're continually double-clicking the .cab file while it's on your PC, then trying to transfer it after it's been munged by Windows when, probably, Windows tries to convert it to a "compatible" file.
Do you know how to do a factory reset and do you backup your settings in case you brick your iPAQ?
That sounds like where you're headed because you're trying things way over your head, it seems.
Tip: Do your research *before* you apply things like this, not after when things are broken. |

Hi everybody
Just to tell you that the patch SDHC_DRIVERS_FOR_C550_AND_N560_BY_GreateVK_AND_FreePK.cab works fine on iPaq hx2490b and 8Gb SDHC Class 4 Kingston card. All the space (8Gb) is visible under WM5. The previous driver I used for a while (HTC SDHC, identical to this in the first post of Prof Julie) read only 4Gb. The suspend mode bug is not present. Wifi works fine. So, I think it is a full succes. Thanks to Leonardo for the info.
Regarding the suspend mode bug observed by Charles, Leonardo, Lord Buzz.. on their iPaq models, I believe it is clearly a ROM bug nothing to do with the patch. I remember that the first ROM version of my hx2490 had lot of issues with SD cards including freezing etc. HP/Compaq issued a fix for all the hx2400 series to solve them.
But if I understood correctly, for your models nothing was done. It's a pity.
Stephan
P.S. For people who don't want to regsiter at xda-developers site , you can download the patch from here http://rapidshare.com/files/122497346/SDHC_DRIVERS_FOR_C550_AND_N560_BY_GreateVK_AND_FreePK.cab.html |

Kenny,
Last year when I wanted to buy an regular SanDisk 4GB MiniSD the salesman warned me that some devices got too slow with the 4GB. So I asked to test the card on the store before buying it.
On this test the 4GB MiniSD from SanDisk was TOO slow on my HW6965. I tested copying a 10MB file from internal memory to the SD and it took a lot of time (I don't recall the times).
The same tests with an 2GB MiniSD also from SanDisk were normal. So i bought the 2GB card.
Maybe it's a problem only with the SanDisk card. What is the brand of your card that you have been using for a year ?

I'm not sure the brand, as it's not marked on the card. It's a cheap import is all I know. there are better ones than what I'm using. I agree that the read/write times are less than desirable, but at the same time, I've never experienced any lag on music or video. I do normally shrink video and reduce fps for my 6945, but on the whole, I haven't had any problem with it other than slower than normal read/write times. I don't change my music or videos very often because I can fit so much on the card, so it ends up that I spend roughly as much time moving files on and off of the card than I did with my 2GB card. It is sort of a 2-edged sword, but I personally believe that the good (4GB of storage) far outweigh the bad (somewhat slower read/write times). That's my review. I'd recommend spending the extra bucks on a branded card than going the cheap route and getting an import like I did, though. |

On my card, here are my benchmark testing results with the regular (not HC) 4GB miniSD card (All tests performed while docked in cradle):
First: Write a 12MB file to internal storage. - roughly 90 seconds
Second: Write same 12MB file to SD card while inserted in iPaq. - roughly 1 minute, 45 seconds
Second and a half: Deleted file on card.
Third: Copy same file on card from internal memory to SD card. - exactly 60 seconds
Fourth: Files deleted from both places and tests restarted via Bluetooth. - all tests were within 5-15 seconds longer.
As far as I'm concerned, these tests are VERY livable conditions for me. I have no problems with these results. It's a cheaper method and I didn't have to tweak anything. If there's any other tests that you'd like me to do, just let me know. I know that these are certainly not the fastest speeds, but they work well. |

I just came to the same conclusion: It's wiser to buy a non-HC 4GD SD card than to waste more time on trying to fix things with hacked drivers and registry tweaks. Believe me, I tried all drivers out there and every registry tweak supposed to help me out. I even attempted to reverse engineer the working SDHC drivers. All to no avail. Of course this all pertains to rx5900 iPAQs.
If you can live the with frequent reboots to access your SDHC card, the FreePK drivers is indeed the driver of choice; it is reported to support 8GB cards or even 16GB cards.
If -like me- you need a 4GB card and don't want to reboot your device twice a day, you are far better off buying a non-HC card. I just bought a Transcend 4GB 133x card, and that solved all my problems. The card is fast, doesn't need reboots, all 4GBs are accessible and the price is the same as a 4GB SDHC card. Easy choice! |

That's great that you aren't interested in using SDHC cards in unsupported devices, but you might want to check subject of this thread. It's here for people who do want to be able to use SDHC and are looking for a solution. In my case, I need a > 8GB SDHC to be able to hold various maps for my GPS as well as a large database for a medical program. |

For my rx1950, I can concur that only 4 of 8 GB are recognized by the driver. There appears to be full read-write capability within those 4 GB, and I have seen no interference with any other programs, including internet access.
It should be possible to install WM 6 on an rx1950, but I suppose HP would have to provide it. Any word on when or if that will happen? WM 6 recognizes HDHC cards. |

This thread was the best Christmas present ever!
I own an rx1950 with WM 5.0 (ROM revision 1.01.00) and I got the full 8 Gb of a Class 6 Transcend card to be recognized with the "SDHC_DRIVERS_FOR_C550_AND_N560_BY_GreateVK_AND_FreePK.cab" driver.
I used to have the issue where I had to reboot after inserting a new card for it to be recognized (which was often as I owned a 2 gb card at the time), but HP issued a patch for that error for the rx1950 a while back. That patch seems to be holding up just fine after installing this new driver and I can remove and reinsert the card with no issues.
I have gotten greedy and just ordered a 16 gb trascend class 6 card. Will post again when it arrives in a week if the extra gigs cause any errors; otherwise it can be assumed that the new card works just fine too. |

Also, where can I see that the .cab was indeed installed ? Isn't there a list somewhere that would show it ?
Best regards,
Pierre |

Pierre,
go on:
Settings -> System -> Remove Programs
You should see on the list:
"GreateVK & 777-Team SD Drivers f..." (text truncated) |

Hello!
To those with ipaq hw69xx series...
I still have the "Sleep issue" where my 8GB micro card(w/SD adaptor) isn't recognized after the ipaq returns from sleep mode. The size shows correctly on Today Panel as 7.5GB, but if I actually try to access the files on the card, it will simply hang. At that point I can eject and reinsert, and I can again access the files on the card.
I've installed and reinstalled the "SDHC_DRIVERS_FOR_C550_AND_N560_BY_GreateVK_AND_Free" cab several times, and have tried many variations with installing and resetting, but continue to have the sleep issue.
Can any of you that have the hw69xx series confirm that you can ideed access an ** 8GB ** card immediately after your ipaq returns from sleep mode?
And if you can confirm the above, do you have any suggestions what I might try to fix my issue?
Thanks for your help! Joe |

There is no known solution to the standby bug in HW69XX with 6GB or 8GB SDHC cards (and probably 16GB too).
For 4GB SDHC cards some people in this thread say they got the SDHC card working fine on their HW69XX without the sleep issue. Since I don't have a 4GB card I can't confirm. |

IPAQ RX5915 I am using the GreatVK & 777-Team SD Drivers to access a 8gig SDHC Knigston card. I am able to work with this card except I can't transfer my TOM TOM maps to it (using Tom Tom Home)! It always fails at about 83% . Error message: An error occurred during the writing of this file: "\Storage Card2\North_America\cline.dat" So? 1) Can I manually install the maps with my SDHC card inside a PC instead of the IPAQ 2) Can I simply copy the missing files to the created subdirectory on SDHC card 3) How do I tell Tom Tom GPS that the map is on a remote card?
If you can help I would be very grateful.
Thank you all.
P.S. the pain is that tom tom erases the files on the IPAQ before it copies the files to the storage card.. So every time I am left with a missing Map message ... oufff! |

I downloaded the driver from eten and couldn't get it to do anything on my 2495b. I copied and pasted the folder thru active sync onto my ppc and using file explorer clicked on the setup cab. All it did was go online and open up what look like the language used to write the driver program. |

Being tired of addresses not being present (old ones, too: not new construction), dropped satellite connections, non-existent support, I used the money TomTom was asking for upgrades to maps and instead erased Tomtom and bought iGo software and maps. I have never been happier. |

I successfully got SDHC cards working on an ipaq hx-2790b, using the "C550_AND_N560" driver (33kb) from an earlier post, from:
http://rs314.rapidshare.com/files/122497346/SDHC_DRIVERS_FOR_C550_AND_N560_BY_GreateVK_AND_FreePK.cab
I'm now using a SanDisk 8gb SDHC card and I have full use of the memory. No problems yet.
Here's what I did to install the one driver file: 1. unzipped driver on PC 2. removed SD card from slot 3. soft reset 4. copied the unzipped driver from PC, via ActiveSync, to the device under Programs folder (other location on device would also work probably) 5. File Explorer > tap on the driver in the device to install it (no special requirements or settings needed) 6. soft reset 7. put in new SDHC card 8. see if device recognizes the full card memory (System > Memory > Storage Card) 9. if not, do another soft reset and repeat step 8 DONE! |

I tried the download from xda and rapidshare with no luck. I own an HP2495b and it doesn't recognize .cab files. I did find a program called "PocketSetupCreator" online that will change .cab files to .exe files. Than you can install it on the 2495b. My ppc now recognizes my 4gb SD card, I'd love to find somebody with a 8gb or bigger card to see if it recognizes them. You can google it and download it for free. |

For what i´ve seen in this forum, the only way to have a fully functional high capacity sd card in the ipaq69XX is to own a micro SD with a mini SD adaptor. The users that have one claim to have no problem with the standby issue. I, my self, own a mini SD 4gb, and the standby problem is really a problem! It seems not to be a software problem, but a electronic circuit problem. But what do i know? =) |

Archonnexus,
MicroSDHC cards on HW69XX also have the standby problem and there is no solution for this (yet and probably never will).
In fact, I think there is no Mini SDHC of +6GB, only Micro SDHCs.

Hello,
After reading this thread, I went ahead and bought an Kingston 4GB Micro SDHC card today for my iPAQ hw6915. It had a mini Adapter also which 6915 uses. Before I also installed the hack "SDHC_DRIVERS_FOR_C550_AND_N560_BY_GreateVK_AND_FreePK.cab" on my 6915. Before buying the SDHC card, I even tried SDHC on my 6915 before buying it. It showed 4GB memory. I even put it on sleep mode and then turned on it still showed 4GB. So I thought my 6915 was seeing the 4GB SDHC card with no problem. So I bought it.
When I came home, I openned the 4GB SDHC card, and installed on my 6915 and it showed 4GB again with no problem. Then I tried create a new folder on 4GB SDHC and 6915 did not allow me to do that. Then I reset the 6915 and tried to create a folder on SDHC and this time it allowed it. I thought may be I need to format 4GB SDHC card by using Spb Pocket Plus Format. When I hit format 4GB SDHC card, it accepted first then it gave me me a message that cannot format this card because it is locked. Then I took the SDHC card and tried to format it on my laptop which has Windows XP Home Edition on it. But my laptop did not recognize this card. Even though it said that it loaded its driver. My card reader says on it: "High Speed mini card reader" and also it says "mini-sd/rs-mmc sd-mmc". Do you think was that caused the problem ? because it doesnot say micro sd card reader. Did I damage by sticking micro-sd card with SD adapter in to this card reader and let my laptop recognize it. Cut it short, I eneded up not reading this micro 4GB SDHC card on my 6915. Now my 6915 doesnot recognize this SDHC card. I tried everything except clean reset with my 6915. I uninstalled the SDHC driver and reinstalled it but problem continues. I even tried Prof Julie's SDHC driver but result is negative.
My question is: did I brick this 4GB micro SDHC card ? or is it defective ? I am thinking to return this SDHC card back to store. Saying that it is not working. It has 2 years warranty though. Or should I try clean reset which is alot of work.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks, Tolga |

I'm working with an iPAQ rx5915, and the driver works just fine and dandy (I'm using a Lexar 8GB card), but dies when the system is powered down (standby). I see this is "normal" and have read the notes about needing to edit a registry entry, but I can't see how to start regedit (or whatever is the proper tool for editing the registry)? There's no option on the Windows Mobile menus for this that I can see, nor is there a command line I could type "regedit" on. What do I do, please?
Thanks, Simon |

Hi,
I use Virtual Explorer Version 1.40.535 (WM5) for Registry Editing. You can check www.wizcode.com. May be it has a free trial. By the way, I tried all registry tweaks in this thread to solve stand by problem of SDHC cards. But I could not solve the problem of stand by. So I returned my 4 GB micro SDHC card back to the store.
Good luck, Tolga |

Only "hackers" and Asus company take care of their end-users. Not Hewlett-Packard. Releasing patches, updates. Convince me the opposite!
In hw6915 memory card volume over 2 GB "lost" after an awakening. Of course the manufacturer of HP so indifferent.
For example: Patch for Asus.
1.Support both WM5 and WM6 2.Support SDHC card 3.Fix SD card couldnât be detected issue after suspended or resumed. Here: http://support.asus.com/download/download.aspx?SLanguage=en-us&model=MyPal%20A626
Where a patch for HP ????????????????????? |

@Scott Beaman:
Your link to SDHC_WM6WM5.zip did the trick on my rx5935! I had the same problems like many people here but then I tried the link that you've posted here. There was no need to overwrite the sdbus.dll and sdmemory.dll like written in the readme file. I just installed SDHC.cab and after that the certs.cab and everything is working fine! THX :-) |

Hi everybody, Here's my case.
Ipaq HW6915 wm5 5.1.195 (build 1497.2.3.1) Kingston microSDHC 4Go card with miniSD adapter
The card is working with every patch (Found here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=344338 ) but I still have the stand by problem.
After a suspend, the card is still there and directories are still visible, but I need to re-insert the card to access the files again. error message : "A device attached to the system is not functionning"
I thought it might be a problem of format (I never formated my card since I bought it) so I get in a computer store to format it (I didin't have sdhc reader). I used a laptop with Vista.
It worked !!!!!! No more stand by problem ! I played mp3 from the card and suspend it, it was still working after turning on.
It worked until I soft reset my ipaq. Since, Suspend problem again ! I formated my card over and over (fat32, fat16, fat, ex fat...) but nothing works.
If It can help cleaver people to find a solution.
Good luck |

I found an 8GB card and driver that works great on my Ipaq HW6955 but I am having a problem I would like to know if anyone else has.
The driver I used was SDHC_DRIVERS_FOR_C550_AND_N560_BY_GreateVK_AND_FreePK.cab:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/show...&postcount=267
The card I used was this one:
http://flashmemory-store.stores.yaho...sdhc-card.html
This card and driver worked fine and survived my device being turned off and back on. The problem I am having is battery life. Without the patch, my battery will last a week or so. When I install the patch, the battery will last less than a day.
I've noticed people mentioning they have used this patch and had success but I'm having a major problem with battery life. Has anyone, who has used this patch, had any battery issues? |

Linda,
I have a copy of the file I used to get the SDHC card working on my ipaq hx2790b, file is titled: SDHC_DRIVERS_FOR_C550_AND_N560_BY_GreateVK_AND_FreePK
Is this the one you were looking for?
If there isn't any copywrite or limitations I could email the file to you, of course can't guarantee it will work in your case.
