Hi,

i have 2x 2048 MB Kingston RAM lying next to me. The first one is no problem to build in, but where is the second RAM slot?

Do I have to remove the keyboard? Would be very nice, if someone could please help me. I didn't find anything in the documents delivered together with the notebook!

Best regards -
Gregor

There is only one problem, the document said "gently lift the top edge of the keyboard", but you can't lift it gently, since it's glued with a very powerful glue to the optical drive enclosure, in the numeric keypad area.

I have to use a fair amount of force to lift it, and it also came partially out with the top of the optical drive enclosure, the aluminum plate was bent partially.

Then I had to use even more force to separate the keyboard from the aluminum plate, at times I was very afraid I will break it.

Finally it came out, the keyboard was in one piece, but the optical bay enclosure was bent slightly and open in half.

I pushed the optical drive enclosure back and it seemed to stick (there was probably some glue between the two parts).

Then I upgraded the RAM, assembled everything back, but now the right side of the keyboard, the numeric keypad, was not horizontal, and was slightly open at the top edge.

I applied pressure to the right side of the keyboard, and it seems OK now.

So that's what HP means buy "lift gently". I'm sure there was a better solution than gluing the keyboard to the optical drive enclosure, I don't know, maybe some Velcro tape, or put both memory modules on the back of the laptop.

Anyway, I'm glad my Laptop still works after the upgrade. But I'm not sure I want to ever do this again.

Interesting to hear you had to use force to lift the keyboard. Is it your original laptop from brand new ?

I can attest THERE IS glue (double sided scotch tape) holding the keyboard in place near the optical drive bay.

Pull it gently... with constant force... not too much. It will come undone rather quickly. Always harder the first time.
