I have a deskjet 840c. I replaced the cartridge for the first time, and bought a "15" cartridge. When I placed it in my printer, the cartridge light on the front started blinking. Tech suports didn't help much, but I just noticed that on the website, it says I am suuposed to use a HP15 C6615AN cartridge. The one i have says HP 15 C6615D. Any ideas? Are there different types of hp15 carts. thnaks.

You have the correct ink cartridge. The differet letters at the end of the model number mean the mL of ink that the ink cartridge has. It could just be a defective ink cart. I would just return the cart. to the store and try another. |

Don't be mad at me, but I get at least two of these a week. Did you take the tape off the cartridge?

Thanks for your replies. However, I have already exchanged it for another cart and had the same problem. Also, I went over both carts carefully and took off all the tape. Would the amount of ink in the cart make any difference? |

Brian,
The cartridges that you are using may be past their expiration date. Be sure to check the date on the outside of the package before you purchase any ink cartridges. If they do not have at 6 months out on them, I would look at another retailers store. The expiration date is CRITICAL. Just like milk, you reach expiration, the cartridge is old and will no longer function correctly.
Also, here is a GREAT set of information about which cartridges go with which printers.

Tnanks, but on both packages, the "install before" date is march 2003. Also, one very odd thing is that when I put the old cart back in, it is recognized. Odd. |

You may have a defective set of cartridges. If you have purchased them within the past 90 days....take them back and exchange them for two new ones (color and black).
I think new cartridges will resolve the problem.

Brian,
I've had the exact same experience w/ my 842C. Black ink cartridge 15 simply would not make it happy. I had to fiddle around with the cartridge once it was in - trying to push it various ways to make sure it was making good contact whereever its supposed to... After several tries, it decided the cartridge was fine and never gave me any trouble (but I don't take it out until I have to).
Its not just you! Good luck. |
