Author Subject: m9040n customize hotkeys on wireless keyboard – Windows XP      Add to my favorites

Mar 9, 2008 17:00:57 GMT

I have the m9040n with a dual boot Vista/XP system. Does anyone know how to customize the hotkeys on the wireless keyboard in Windows XP? Currently the only hotkeys that work are the 3 volume buttons and the sleep button.

The keyboard driver installed is the SP26811.

Thanks in advance,

Rodney

You need .net 1.1 or higher installed on the system for XP and this driver:

.net 1.1

Hi Rich,

I have net 3.0 installed.

I tried to install the suggested driver but several error windows pop up. The file path on these error messages point to the C drive. With the dual boot system, my Windows XP is on the D drive. How do I point the installer to the correct drive?

Does anyone else have a problem installing the keyboard driver for XP when it is not installed on the C drive?

My XP is on the D drive and the installer points to the C drive by default. Does anyone know how to change the path of the installer?

Thanks

I just downloaded it...

It looks like it first downloads to your

profile temp directory from HP then creates a folder called:

C:\HP\DRIVERS\KEYBOARD\

Within that temp profile folder is a

file called INF_PATH.TXT

it is in the folder:

C:\Documents and Settings\<your profile/logon name>\Local Settings\Temp\pft9.tmp\Source

try changing that C:\HP\DRIVERS\KEYBOARD\ to a D:\HP\DRIVERS\KEYBOARD\

And yes .net 3.0 will be fine.

FORGOT TO MENTION: MAKE THIS CHANGE WHILE THE POP UP IS THERE ASKING YOU IF YOU WANT TO LOAD THIS DRIVER.

YOu can leave it on the sceeen while editing the file.

Then tell it OK... PROCEED..

I just reran it again.

You have to EDIT the KBD.BAT

in the folder:

C:\Documents and Settings\<YOUR PROFILE NAME>\Local Settings\Temp\pft12.tmp\Source

Do a replace ALL C: to D: then save the file.

This has to be done when the popup of the ".net 1.1 or higher" message comes up.

Just do not say yes or no till you get the file edited then saved.

It loaded all my files onto my D: drive....

Hi Rich,

thank you for your help. Now the files install without any error message. I also have a new folder on the root of my D drive called "HP" with 2 sub folders called "drivers" and "KBD". Unfortunately, I still don't think that it installed completely. The current driver is from Microsoft (7/1/2001) version 5.1.2600.218. Plus, there still isn't any new tabs or features to allow me to customize buttons.

I feel like I might be missing one last detail.

Anymore suggestions?

Thanks again,

Rodney

The keyboard driver is really not a full driver....

If you have a volume knob like mine, turn it or push one of the buttons that didn't work before and it should....

I had a green onscreen defaullt color that showed my volume levels... now its gray and looks quite different...

Again, its a program more than a driver. and runs with .net that is why it had to be loaded to work.

Its a TSR called KBD.exe that is running.

Try a few buttons.. if the on screen does not show up, it may not be active. Go and click it then try the buttons again.

Is it possible to get the "software" that displays in the system tray like it does for vista when you press Caps Lock or Numb Lock so you know those buttons were pressed?

have an enhanced HP keyboard model 5189 urf and found some software that let me program it for XP

It also works on windows 7 32 or 64 bit

Unfortunately I dont have the url i got it from

However the folder it creates is less than 2 megs

I copied and pasted the folder from XP into win7 ultimate 64 bit program files and changed the properties of the file KMAESTRO.EXE to run in xp sp3 mode

and it works great

If anyone would like the folder i could send it via e mail Put keyboard as the subject
