for XP
try
http://tinyurl.com/yx4f2u
If that does not work,
Check your device manager.
In XP, you can look up the device name in the device manager.
Control Panel > System (icon) > hardware (tab) > Device Manager
If there is a yellow mark right click it, select Properties, Details tab...
You Will find a string like this one:
PCI\VEN_1102&DEV_0007&SUBSYS
copy and paste the entire string and post it here on HP site .... (copy CTRL-C and PASTE CTRL-V)
VEN_ is the vendor and DEV_ is the device model number ...
with that string we can get you the proper driver.
IF you do not see a Details tab:
To configure Device Manager to show details:
Click Start , click Run , type cmd.exe , and then click OK. Type
set DEVMGR_SHOW_DETAILS=1
and then press ENTER.
Type
start devmgmt.msc
and then press ENTER

POINTS?
Points are way of saying thank you to the person that has helped you with your question. Only the question author can assign points to a given response. If you submit a question or new topic and another member replies to it, you will see a drop down menu (see attached PIC) of points next to the reply (you must be logged in to see the menu). Select the point value and then click the "submit points" button. Note that you can rate multiple replies and submit them at one time. That way you can assign more than 10 points to an individual. If the thread has been closed, the author must reopen the question to submit the points then close it again. |

Barbara was actually posting for me. I did install the drivers, which while installing them my computer turned off and restarted itself.
Going under device manager, for sound there are two Unknown Devices. The strings are:
SW\{4245FF73-1DB4-11D2-86E4-98AE20524153}\{9B365890-165F-11D0-A195-0020AFD156E4}
and
SW\{B7EAFDC0-A680-11D0-96D8-00AA0051E51D}\{9B365890-165F-11D0-A195-0020AFD156E4} |

Don't you see a string like this:
PCI\VEN_1102&DEV_0007&SUBSYS
under the details tab?

I can still read them..its just a little harder
Driver Vender: Microsoft PnpID: sw\{4245ff73-1db4-11d2-86e4-98ae20524153} Microsoft Streaming Quality Manager Proxy
and
Driver Vender: Microsoft PnpID: sw\{b7eafdc0-a680-11d0-96d8-00aa0051e51d} Microsoft WINMM WDM Audio Compatibility Driver
but to find the driver, I need the details string...

Yes, these don't help finding the driver....
Microsoft Kernel Audio Mixer (SW\{B7EAFDC0-A680-11D0-96D8-00AA0051E51D}\{9B365890-165F-11D0-A195-0020AFD156E4})
SW\{4245FF73-1DB4-11D2-86E4-98AE20524153}\{9B365890-165F-11D0-A195-0020AFD156E4}: Microsoft Kernel Acoustic Echo
the details tab string would though....

For the SoundMAX
PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_2445&SUBSYS_806A1043&REV_05\3&61AAA01&0&FD
But, in the device manager it says that SoundMAX has update drivers and is working properly. And there are two flagged Unknown Devices that are not working properly and "The drivers for this device are not installed. (Code 28)"
I gave the strings to those devices in the other post. And the device is "sound, video and game controllers". |

And for the Unknown Devices, the strings I gave you are what it gives me under details. |
