I am working on a clients g50 laptop and attempting to install xp onto it. I have done dozens upon dozens HP laptop conversions to XP..mostly the dv series and have made a career out of slipstreaming the appropriate sata drivers for the corresponding chipset. I have had success everytime but now I am completely stumped with this g50. I got the standard blue screen of death, slipstreamed the correct driver, and xp proceeded to install flawlessly. To my surprise once it went into its first hard drive boot, the windows xp logo pops up and I get another fraction of a second blue screen of death...can't get into any safe mode..just keeps rebooting to the logo screen and then the blue..I wish I could tell you the error msg but I can't as I mentioned earlier...its a fraction of a second. Ive gone through about 25cds trying different combinations of slipstreaming this sata driver but to no avail. Every time I get the post install blue screen of death. I've now spent 7 days trying to find a solution but this has really got me scratching my head.
Tomorrow I am investing into a usb floppy drive to try the f6 approach but with no success thus far, something tells me I am going to get the same results.
Has anyone had this problem? A post blue screen with the correct sata drivers?

-Unzipped file -Formatted floppy disc -COPIED ALL unzipped content to floppy disc -Hit f6 and selected the 6th or 7th selection UP the list, specifically titled : ICH9M-E/M SATA AHCI Controller
My first attempt was a failure and heres what happened. Did the following steps above, and as it was copying the files I received a copy file error :
cannot copy the file iastor.sys
Upon further googling, I discovered the silly solution.
You need to create a folder within the floppy disc titled $OEM$
Then you need to create a folder within the $OEM$ folder titled TEXTMODE
Then you need to copy the same files into the TEXTMODE folder.
Once I created the folders, copied in the files, hit f6, loaded the driver, and the install proceeded with no copy errors. To my surprise after all the headache, the windows logo appeared, and no blue screen of death.
Why the nlite method did not work is beyond me. A post install blue screen was a first for me with correct sata slipstreamed drivers and hopefully this can help someone else that may have the same problem. I came across forums with users claiming the nlite method did work but at this point it's anyones guess. I'm just relieved its up and running with XP PRO SP3.
I am absolutely convinced this convaulted process is part of microsofts extraordinary lengths not to allow one the luxury of XP and to continue the silly game of forcing Vista onto unsuspecting customers ( like my client ). I find it equally amusing that HP and many other company's participate in this comical resistance..they will not host the majority, if not all in most cases, the XP device drivers yet you can order a xp recovery disc for the specific model with the unwanted preloaded Vista for the low low price of w/e.
So in a nutshell, if you get a blue screen of death after the install, use the floppy usb drive method as a solution.
Forgot to mention something important. After you are prompted to "press any key to boot from cd" the blue screen that follows..well, does not appear. Its a blank black screen. The problem is.. this is when your supposed to hit f6 and include the correct driver...but how if you can't see anything? Why the screen goes black I simply do not know...but this is what I did :
With the usb floppy drive attached to the laptop, when the screen goes black, start hitting f6 until the laptop starts to beep back at you.
Watch for the CD status light in the front left of the laptop to stop blinking, wait for the cd to stop spinning, the screen will still be black but things are now idle and it wants the sata driver.
Now this part is a little tricky, took me a couple times to get it because you are navigating blind.
Hit the 'S' key and watch for the usb floppy drive light to flicker. Wait a few seconds.
Hit the up key 7 times, this will take you to the correct sata driver in the list you cannot see.
Hit Enter..watch for the floppy drive light again to flicker...it should make a noise meaning its loading the files off the floppy disc
Once the floppy drive light/copy noise stops, hit Enter again.
All the files will continue to load and once it has, you will finally be greeted with the hard drive page.
If hitting the UP key 7 times still gives you the BSOD after the process of things, try again with 6 times, I did this 2 days ago and no longer have the clients machine but I am pretty sure its the 7.
I am trying to install XP Professional 64 edition on a presario laptop and am experiencing the blue screen saying the iaStor.sys file is incorrect. I have gone to the Intel download page and taken what I thought was the right driver to slipstream into the installation. Do you have any suggestions given how many of these you have done?
