There is a well documented problem with the Creative X-Fi extreme series of audio cards integrating with Windows Vista running under Direct X 10. Nvidia video drivers also seem installed also. Some people claim that both occupy the same interrupt. I think not. Simply put, The Creative driver set was supposed to run under Direct X 9 and below. The card features an EAX enhancement for gamers. The EAX makes calls to the PC in a way that Direct X no longer handles. The resulting effect is known as SCP (snap, crackle, pop) It due to a latency problem and I've yet to make it go away after Creative and NVidia driver updates on my brand new Pavilion e9150 machine. I will inform any interested followers of this thread how HP will resolve the issue, since it started with the HP Home store offering only Creative sound cards with my Vista 64 machine.

Hi glennieboy,

I am having an identical problem with my Pavilion 9180t system.  I have not yet called HP, but from what I have read on other forums, it has not helped much.  I am very interested as to how you solved this problem and any information you have would be very much appreciated.

Thank you,
Robert

Robert, I resolved my problem by returning the computer to HP in a refund exchange. There was absolutely nothing else that worked. My new machine is identical to the old one except for the exchange of the NVidia card for the ATI Radon HD 4650 video card and the exchange for the better Creative Sound Blaster X-FI Titanium card. To date, the new computer configuration works perfectly. Also, a hidden benefit was that when I configured the new replacement machine, it was much easire, since I had already done it once before!

Alright, thank you for your help! This problem has been very frustrating and I will be getting in touch with HP in the near future and see what they have to say. I will keep your configuration in mind and see if they will give me something similar :).

Thanks again,
Robert
