I want to add at least 2 gig of ram to my system. The system specs from hp's site was 1 gig max., see here:

The motherboard specs say I can go to 2 gig, see here:

Checking ram websites, they show I can do 2 gig, and go up to 3200 speed, since I have a 400mhz bus,

but the hp specs say 2700...

Any help would be appreciated

Jason, if Crucial suggests memory, it is guaranteed to work or they will replace it at no additional cost to you.

I believe, however, while the higher speed memory will work (backward compatible), you will not gain any benefit from it. HP makes proprietary changes to their boards and if the specs say PC2700 that is the max speed provided.

Thanks! So I can go with 3200 and it will work, but I may not get the benefit from it... Does this have anything to do with the bios? For ex, if I have someone re-write it, could I go to 4 gig of ram, or am I locked in a 2 gig?

Here is the www.crucial.com page for your machine. http://www.crucial.com/store/listparts.aspx?model=Pavilion%20a545c The max they say is 2 GB. 2GB with XP will make your applications load much faster than 512 MB It goes from click and wait to click and it happens. It will do more for the apparent machine speed than a processor upgrade.
