Just installed two Kingston HyperX 4GB (2 x 2GB) 200-Pin DDR2 SO-DIMM DDR2 667 (PC2 5300) Dual Channel cards and Vista will not boot. The BIOS shows the addition of 3 gigs of memory to the one that was in the computer. I can get to the windows recovery screen, where the computer asks me whether I would like to start windows normally or recovery. Windows does not start normally and the recovery starts and then just seems to stall with no hd activity. I am performing a self test on the hd now. The only reason I am aware why the comp would not be working is the chipset for the memory is different, but I can not find ant information for this. I have 32bit vista now do need to have 64 to run more memory or is it the chipset. please help

I have a DV9610US with 4 GB of RAM installed windows actually only sees 3.15 Gb of memory and that is all that the computer showed till Vista SP1 now it shows 4 GB but from what I have read it can still only use the 3.15 Gb of RAM. Here is the www.crucial.com page for your machine. http://www.crucial.com/store/ListParts.aspx?model=Pavilion%20tx1000%20Series The unusuall item is that the BIOS only shows 3 GB it should show 4 GB if the memory is truly compatible and OK

Thanks Ron,

Believe it or not, I went into the bios and did a hard drive self test and then saved the changes to the bios to exit and after I did that the compter worked perfectly and was so much faster. Thanks for your time and consideration.

Sincerely,

Ian Wamhoff

I think what you did is to force the CMOS/BIOS to recognize the memory correctly
