i'm playing with a thought to buy a compaq evo 800v with wlan modul.
But first i would like to ask if anyone can tell me how linux works on this notebook.
Especially if ACPI is working, if the wlan adapter is working, display drivers. Is the battery liftime shorter under linux?
Are there parts not working, not working right?
And i would like to know whats the difference between 800v and 800c

We are also in a process of buying new notebooks, and since we are "Linux-only"-company our notebooks will also have linux OS..
I have gathered a lot of information in these past weeks and N800v seems to be the best linux-notebook for us (at least of hp/compaq notebooks), all it's hardware seems to be supported in linux.
Only problem is network connection, since wlan is the way to go for us.. As far as I know, multiport w200 module does not work in linux right now! And since there is only a single PC Card-slot, placing a wlan-card there is a bad solution.. So please HP, get somekind of support for multiport in linux too, or you will lose some good customers..
The new W200 (the one from agere/proxim/ex orinoco)
is not supported under linux, because the company(ies) wil not
give out the infos needed to write a driver. Compaq changed from a very standard chipset to this unsupported
one, I do not understand why.
I think Hp should put some pressure
on Agere to have linux drivers or at
least device specifications. The linux
driver for pcmcia exist, so why not
release the ones for USB ?
I know
many people (ie myself) who got quite angry at the mess caused
by the inexplainable change of chipset.
but it doesn't seem to have any support for W200..
Agere systems seems to have some linux-support with their wireless products, so maybe we will get working driver for w200 too, man can always hope.. =)
