I have just upgraded my ipaq to the hx4705. I really love the unit but am running into a few snags. I had converted my DVD's to play on my previous ipaq and loved it. I now have tried playing the same files on the 4705, but they are super tiny. Quality is great, justneed a magnifying glass. I realize that there is a difference with the VGA, but are there any reasonable solutions to this problem? If not, what programs would everyone recommend to use to redo all of my DVD's. Thanks Ann

I have a 4700 and use DVDtoPocketPC to copy movies. WMP plays them really small, but someone here recommended Betaplayer which plays them almost full screen. You need this download plus something else - I need to go find exactly what you need.....

Something like that - yes - this is from another thread from 'Shane'

For full screen WMV playback, Windows Media Player can't do it... But BetaPlayer can - and it is really good for video (does XVID and DIVX playback too).

Get BetaPlayer (get 0.92 unstable version) from:
http://betaplayer.corecodec.org/

And download the WMV/ASF plugin from:
http://forge.topcat.hu/frs/download.php/52/asf.setup.UNSTABLE.092.exe

I did exactly these two downloads as Shane said and it works great.

Thanks Shane - wherever you are....

So I wonder if with this newer version if you still need the ASF plugin - I don't understand plugins enough to know.

OK - so I downloaded the latest one that Charles gave the link to , and you also need the ASF plugin.

So go to Charles's link

click on 'Download Beta Player'

once you have done that , go back to that same page and now click on
'Benchmark Summary Page by AVI'

and then click on
asf.setup.UNSTABLE.0.093.exe

I have just done it on my 4700 and it works great

click on 'Download Beta Player'
select ... Latest unstable version - 0.093

once you have done that , go back to the page where you selected 'Download Beta Player' and now select
'Benchmark Summary Page by AVI'

and then click on
asf.setup.UNSTABLE.0.093.exe

Hi Ronald - nice to see you can say it in one.

Ann it is not my link - it is the work of Gabor Kovacs and so the credit should go to Gabor who can be contacted directly by e-mail if you click on "contact" in the pages from the link. Hopefully, you will now see the big picture.

I decode de dvd (DVDecrypter) onto the harddisk. Then I encode it with MS media Encoder, which can read those .VOB files, into WMVs. Play with the resolution & bit/frame rate. I've managed to encode some 20 mins of SWE1, 640x 360, VBR, 15 fps, onto a 70MB of WMV file. Just play the file with the 4700 media player in full screen mode. It will even auto rotate the screen for you.

I have a great tool for you. It is called AVS videoconverter. There is support for different file formats mpeg avi wmv and a couple of others. There are presets for how to convert video, so you dont have to know very much about bitrate, screensizes and other stuff.
