Hi, we plan to move 3 disks (RAID5) from a Proliant 3000 to a 5500, which also runs same 3 disks in RAID5. The question is if it will work, because the first server has a SMART-2DH RAID controller and the second server has a SMART-2/P RAID controller. Does anyone know the answer? Thanks in advance...

Hello,
Please make sure that before you move the Hard Drives the firmware version of the Array controllers as well as the System BIOS is updated. The SoftPaq for the Array controller is SP19677 which can be obtained from the following URL:
http://www.compaq.com/support/files/server/us/download/14694.html

Please be careful to use the correct BIOS upgrade SoftPaq since Proliants 3000 & 5500 have two different kinds of flavors.

Secondly, it will be easier to move the controller with the Hard Drives as well since the Array configuration is stored locally on the Hard Drives. Just make sure that you configure the controller first in the server before moving the Hard drives by hitting F10 and running the Systems Configuration Utility.

If you need further assistance in the matter please contact our Technical Support at 1-800-652-6672.

Regards,
