I just bought a refurbished burner, and connected it and installed the soft ware that was provided(only the set up disk) and i went to make some cd's when i get a fatal error message and the burner will not copy the cd. I use music matchbox as provided by my computer. i am running windows ME. do i need any of the other software that hp provides on the disks that i did not receive with the burner (mycd, recordnow, etc) or it is just that the cdr's i bought are not compatable. they are 32 max. i have tried to use the help that hp provides and that music match provides, but none of it helped. i would like to know what i can do before i decide i should keep the burner.

The following is a support site for your CDR:

http://www.hp.com/cposupport/swindexes/hpcdwriter22106_swen.html

You should consider upgrading your software.

For windows ME :

Here is the docs and Faq site:

Good Luck,

Thanks Bill, I will give the downloads a try tonight when i'm at home on my computer. I did get some more software off of the cd-rom, but i still was getting an error when trying to write to the disk. I will give more feedback when i am able to download from the sight you gave me. The FAQ's really have not helped. there was no mention of fatal errors when writing from musicmatch. i'm trying to use recordnow and am still getting error messages, but this time it keeps telling me to put in a blank disk, i do and the drive keeps opening. then with a formated one it does the same thing..i'm sure with what you gave me will help. like i said i'll let you know. thanks. (points will be coming)

Bill, thank you very much for the help. I managed to download all that i needed, and last night i was able to make a couple of cd's. the second one though only copied 13 of 17 until i got an error, but i just think that may be because i was using 32 max cd-r. the first one i used was a 1x 2x 4x cd-rw and i had no problems with that. just one more question. do i need to format the cd's before recording on them? it doesnt appear that i do, but i keep reading that i should format them. i have done that with 2 and now they wont copy. what do you think? THanks again for the great help.
