I have a problem printing from
MSWord '97 on one PC. When you print a
document with graphics it prints 2 or 3
pages and then restarts printing from
page one. The print is networked via
JetDirect Card and other PCs don't have
this problem. The printer is a LaserJet
4100tn. I've tried different drivers
and reinstalling word. The OS is
Windows NT 4.0 workstation SP6.

Since you've tried different print drivers and the printer prints fine from other PC's, we know the trouble isn't with the printer or print driver itself. I would look to more of a network configuration problem here. To verify this, try disconnecting this user from the network completely, connecting to the printer via an IEEE-1284 compliant cable (less than 10 feet in length) and printing a graphics document. If it prints properly, I would compare network settings with this user and other users to see what the problem could be.
I'm currently having the same issue. Someone else has suggested that this might be a "network" issue. But, they haven't really said "what" that network issue might be. Especially, since I've tried checking HP WebAdmin and no errors seem to show up anywhere. Is there a log that this is on?
If you get a network timeout due to the amount of data going across to the printer, that could possibly result in the printjob being resent... hence a couple of pages print and then the job restarts... seem logical for an explanation of a 'network issue'???
yeah, but... No where can I find anything stating that the printer is getting a network timeout. I've also tried increasing the timeout settings on the printer, and it still seems to exhibit this problem. I tried looking on the HP WebJet Admin, under the Diagnostics section and it doesn't show any network errors on the printer end either. I'm also not experiencing any network problems on any of the other 600 machines, or other network printers. My network is setup for 10/100 ethernet. So, I was hoping that the "network problem" might show up in the "Diagnostics" section of the HP Jet Web Admin or hopefully under the event viewer on my NT 4.0(SP6A) printserver. But, I'm racking my brain cause nothing so far seems to have worked. It's not that I don't believe you. It's just I need some starting point to fix this problem with my HP network 4100 printers. This is really strange. My main frustration here, is that so far my past experiences with HP and HPJet Admin/WebAdmin has been really positive. It usually is pretty good and giving me a starting point to troubleshoot the problem. Rather than just randomly changing the printer drivers. Please understand that my frustration is with this weird issue and not any of the replies/help I've received so far. TIA...
David, thought you might want to see what I've found for my problem. I dunno if this helps. But, good luck!

Stuart, I think I've found the problem. Like you suggested earlier. I tried a different driver. More specifically I tried the latest PCL5e. In addition, I turned "Page Protection" to "ON" and this seemed to have helped ("see below info from Win2k help file"). There still is no network issue to speak of. I'm not seeing any network issues on the print server's compaq card, nor are there any network errors showing up on the HP Web JetAdmin, Diagnostics->Jet Direct or TCP/IP webpage for the printer in question. To me it looks more like a memory issue of not having enough memory on the printer. Using the PCL5e print driver and turning "Page Protection" to "ON" has significantly helped the situation. But, for LARGE documents I'm still having the problem.
-------------
To ensure that complex pages print properly
Open Printers.
Right-click the printer you are using, and then click Properties.
On the Device Settings tab, click Page Protection, and then click On.
Notes
To change device settings, you must have the Manage Printers permission. For information about printing security permissions, see Related Topics.
To open Printers, click Start, point to Settings, and then click Printers.
When page protection is active, the printer creates the entire printed page in memory before starting to print. To use page protection, your printer must have at least 1 MB of optional memory available. If your printer does not support page protection, the choice is not available.
