I got a problem with my nc6000, when i want to charge the battery the charging indicator stays on a while (2 - 10 minutes) and then goes off again. When i look in Windows it doesn't see my battery, Linux doesnt sees it either and guess what.. in the bios i cant see the battery either. So i thought my battery was dead so i bought a brand new HP battery but i got the same problem it wont charge and it doesnt get regognised. But when i try a battery from another HP notebook (think its the HP NC8000) it gets regognised in the bios.

help anyone?

Well just an fyi, if the bios won't see it, neither OS will.

First goal should be getting the bios to see it.

That said, try flashing the lastest bios (if you've already got it, reflash it).

See if that helps any.

I believe (not certain) that the 8cell battery for the nc6000/nc8000 is the same battery pack. If that's the case (assuming my guess is correct) that doesn't explain why the nc8000 battery worked and the nc6000 didn't.

So try the bios flash first.
Question: I assume you have an nc8000 present (where you got the nc8000 battery from).
How does the nc8000 react to your supposedly 'dead' battery pack? That should help determine if it's the battery or not.

Well, I just tried the "dead" battery, and it doesnt work either on the nc8000, and my new battery neither, the new battery could be also be a dead one becouse that one also doesnt work on the nc8000 but it's brand new and an offical spare part from HP, well, today i'll try another battery, we have some at my work... then i can see if its the laptop or the battery...

I think I can help you. I had the same exact problem on my nc6000. Pull out your battery and hold the plug end facing you. It should be on your right. Now looking at the vertical slots you will notice one long thin one on the left side and one on the right (just next to the wider slots). (these are the longer of the thin slots) Take 2 paper clips and bend them open (you will need to hit just the end once or twice with a hamer to flatten them so they will fit into the slots) Stick one paper clip into the long thin slot on the left (this is the positive) and stick the other into the long thin slot on the right (this is the negative).. Now check it with a multi meter. (what I had was .4 volts) I charged it using a trickle charger for remote control cars @ 2-3 volts for 35-40 minutes. Pull it off the charger and plug it into your pc which is already on and Poof it works... Oh your bios will now see it. sounds like alot but the set up to charge process took maybe ten minutes. HP's help was lost so I did it my self.

Does any one had luck to rectify this issue? Mine suddenly died and have above symptoms. Used to work just fine until last week. Appreciate any help and suggestions on this. Thanks.

well teh fact that your laptop will recognize a battery from another laptop, and you battery and the replacement battery will not be recognized by another laptop, it points at the batteries.

I was going to suggest you put the battery inanother laptop and 'calibrate' it though the bios but since it isnt recognized, then you cant do that.

Just get a new battery

I think I also have the same problem and I'm desperate for someone to help me. Did the original poster find a solution?

My battery would say it had any amount of charge, 0, 3, 75%, but when I unplugged the laptop (HP Pavillion zv5000) the computer would turn off. I brought my laptop to Batteries Plus, and although he didn't have the right equipment to test a Li-Ion battery he told me it was dead. I proceeded to buy a new battery for my computer. I put the battery in and turned on the computer, and it worked without being plugged in. I thought my problem was fixed. I left the laptap plugged in all night to charge it since it was only at 50%. This morning the battery is still at 50% and I noticed that it says Running on AC Power even though the battery is in and only at 50%.

The only difference I see between now and before I bought the new battery is that before the computer would not run on battery power alone and now it will, but the computer still won't charge the battery.

Another thing I noticed is that when I have the computer turned on, running on battery power, and I plug the adapter in, the charge light comes on for only a few seconds (10 at the most) and then goes out and it again says Running on AC Power instead of Charging.

I have had a problem in the past with my laptop where the computer would not charge any battery for any amount of time and at the time I had a warranty so I sent it in to HP and they told me they replaced the motherboard. Could this be a similar problem? I'm not sure what to do because I don't have a warranty on my computer anymore as it is a few years old.

Thanks.

Well as before..
Are you running the latest bios?

If so, I would do this.

Order a replacement AC adaptor AND a replacement Battery from HP Parts (make sure that you ensure that you have a return policy Just In Case)!

Making sure they are 'genuine HP' parts.

That said, see if it resolves the issue.

If so, your old battery died, and your new battery is not completely compatible, or is defective.

If not, return both and you can feel confident it's definaetly the motherboard (well charging circuit) so they'll likely replace powerpca + motherboard if you send it in for service.

Hope this helps.
