HP Pavilion 763 CTO Desktop Pentium 4 250GB
XP Home SP2
I don't know what is going on but i recently bought a new 250GB hard drive to replace my 80GB hard drive which there is nothing wrong with so i could use it in another computer, anyway the new 250GB hard drive has been formatted and i have done all the updates on it and i'm running SP2 on Windows XP Home Edition and for the life on me i can't set my home page to yahoo or nothing else, internet explorer keeps going to this address ( http://hp-desktop.aol.com/ ) and a pop up message from hp says all hp computers are automatically redirected to aol for it's home page. I've tried to reset internet explorer to the default settings and even tried to delete this regedit address( http://us6.hpwis.com/ ) but
it will not let me delete it.
This is a Brand New Hard Drive also 250GB WD
Any ideas this is driving me nuts?
Anything i do it will always set its self back to the homepage of
( http://hp-desktop.aol.com/ ) and i even reformatted the new hard drive again and ran every spyware program there is nothing works and i keep getting the message from hp that all hp desktop are migrated to aol as their homepage, you can't even delete the registry key from hp it keeps saying unable to delete all specified values.
Any ideas?

Stop panicking & formatting your drive & try the hint from http://about.aol.com/faq/hp "How do I set another homepage as my default? HP customers can change their default homepage through Windowsâ Control Panel in the Network and Internet Connections section."
It probably has nothing to do with your HDD, it's HP way of 'improving internet experience' done through HP-tailored OS.

Are you running an anti-virus software - some of the settings within the AV software do restrict the changing of the home page within IE. You may need to go through the AV software to change the home page
Another option: Have you thought about downloading the version 6 ( version 7 beta) if IE from the Microsoft web page. Once you do that, you can deinstall the "customized" HP version, and install the more "generic" Microsoft version, which should allow you to change the settings. |

Yes, zone alarm is causing homepage problems all over. Just update and all should be well.

The problem is Norton Internet Security. Open Norton (The yelloow globe in the system tray) by right clicking. Select "Open Norton Internet Security". Select "Norton Protection Center". Select "Web Browsing". Select "Auto Protect". Select "Configure Autoprotection". Select "Home Page Protection". Un-Check "Block all attempts to change my home page".
That's IT! |
