I bought an HP Pavillion laptop from a local office store. I bought the first laptop they received - they had already set it up as a demo.
From day one - I have never been able to download an HP update. Every update fails to download.
Any ideas??
Thanks!!
DPeace

I have an All-In-One C5180 Photosmart.
Update download 3.0.7.0014 would fail, every time.
As recommended by Jerry Emery, I installed HP Software Update 4.0.5.
My 'Update Software' version is now 4.000.006.003
That fixed the problem. Thanks very much!!! |

I suspect that the 3.xx versions of Software Update no longer work, I would suggest ignoring my original post and use the 4.xx download of Software Update. You'd think they'd fix this glitch by now! |

Hey DPeace, I had the same problem... try deselecting all of the other download options except for the update of the newest updater... then run the update... finally, this worked after lots of tries of other methods. Let me know if this helps. JHallett |

I have had this same problem since adding an HP Officejet 5610v all-in-one printer a few months ago.
HP Update shows that I need several critical and recommended updates but they all fail every time.
I tried going to the link suggested by Jerry Emery, but it aborted after finding that my computer had a newer version.
I also tried deselecting everything but HP Update 4.0.10.8 as per Jhallett but it still failed.
Any ideas for me? Thanks |

Try installing the "Security Update for HP Software Update" manually without the HP Updater - then run the HP Update program following the security patch update. THIS WORKED FOR ME.
The following link discusses the procedure: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c01367179&lc=en&cc=us&lang=en&os=228&product=3220010&dlc=en
In a nutshell there is information near the bottom of the page that explains the procedure:
Downloading and installing the update from the HP Software & Drivers downloads Web page
Follow these steps to download and install the update from the HP Software & Drivers downloads Web page:
1. Go to http://www.hp.com/support .
2. Select your region, then select your country.
3. Select Download drivers and software (and firmware) , type your model number in the Search field and then press the Enter key.
4. Click the name of the operating system ( Microsoft Windows XP or Microsoft Windows Vista ).
5. Click HP Update Security Vulnerability Update .
6. Click Download only .
7. Click Run in the pop-up window.
8. Follow the on-screen instructions to install the update.
TRY RUNNING THE HP UPDATE AGAIN. GOOD LUCK. |

Hi,
I had exactly the same problem trying to download HP Update version 4.0.10.8.
However, I tried running HP Update when logged in as the administrator under Vista, rather than relying on the UAC prompt when running it as an ordinary user.
When logged in as the administrator, the update downloads and installs successfully. When not, the download never starts.
Hope this helps, Deryck Brown |

I have the same problem...how do I make sure I'm administrator?
the following happened...I was asked to update to the new version.
So I continued to download HP Update 4.0.10.8 (2.7MB) The download was successful BUT the installation was NOT....
It âremoved the old versionâ and then the process stopped and the following window appeared on my screen..... Internal Error 2739. I now have no HP Update program again!!! |

so my problem is that HP Update has never worked for me. I get the msg saying that an update(s) it available, i go to download them, but they never download. it always says "Downloading "file".exe 0/-1 bytes", and the download will NEVER finish. my first thought was it is a big file and maybe it will take a while, so i left it overnight. same thing next morning. so what i have been doing it writing down the updates and manually downloading them from hp website (yes it blows chunks). but now i have the HP Software Update 4.0.10.8 to download and i cant find any links for it on the site. so....my question is can anyone give me a link, or even tell me how to get HP Updates working perfectly. i have 4.0.6 installed (even though when go check the version it tells me 4.0.4.1), and yes i have tried uninstalling it and reinstalling it (many times). in the pic u can see the version on the left that it shows, even though 4.0.6 is installed, and the hpupdate screen that never finishes |

Please try the below steps and check. This has workd for me.
1- Open Task Manager
2- Locate the process âHPADVISOR.exeâ, highlight it and then click on End Process and close the task manager.
3- Click Start -> All Programs -> HP -> HP Update or HP Software Update
4- Click on Next to scan for updates.
5- You will find a window with list of updates, uncheck all the updates except âHP update 4.0.10.8â and click next.
6- The update will try to install and you might get a message
âThe following application should be closed before continuing the Installationâ
The name of the application would be COM Surrogate (Process ID: XXXX) where XXXX is the event ID.
7- This window will have 3 options, Cancel, Retry & Ignore. Click on IGNORE
8- The installation process will continue and the HP Update 4.0.10.8 will be successfully installed. |

Had the same error "Internal erros 2739" I fix this by doing the following: Before downloading Click Start-All Programs-Accessories Right click Command Prompt Click "Run as Administrator" At the prompt type, regsvr32 jscript.dll (be sure to type the space between the two strings.) hit enter
Then download and install
For me, problem solved |

Thanks everyone! This fixed my problem. I had the same problem with the download never finishing and the 0/-1 complete message.
I downloaded the new version as per Robert's instructions but kept getting the internal error 2739 that George mentioned.
So I followed Rafael's instructions and that worked beautifully. Re-downloaded and installed with no problems. Ran the update and it's now downloading 3 critical updates from HP ! Wow, I've had this Compaq for 3 weeks now and this is the first time the HP Update will work in Vista!!
Great job everyone! |

Robert Hauger's updater download suggestion worked for me: sp38874.exe (2.5 MB). While I don't have a laptop, my 7310xi All-in-One (running with XP sp 3)has not been able to download any updates for months--until now. Thanks Robert! |

First, be logged in as the administrator. Then go to conrol panel, then user accounts, then choose "Turn User Account Control on or off." Then remove the check so that the user account control is on. Your system will reboot and then sign on as the administrator again. Your updates should now download successfully. After rebooting after the download, go back and check the option to turn user account control back off. |

Thanks all!!! I kept sending feedback, but never received an acknowledgement (human nor automated). I used the latest link (updated the Update), and I got going. |

Had the same problem and it's a really easy fix, just wish I would've thought of trying this earlier! I'm running Vista 64 bit by the way, but this should work in any version of windows. Go to HP update in the start menu, right click on it an choose "run as administrator" and it worked like a charm. All updates installed successfully! |

Had the same problem -- all three updates refused to download on several attempts.
Went to the HP web site, selected SUPPORT AND DRIVERS, put in my computer model and manually downloaded two of the updates without difficulty.
I could not find the HP PML driver update on the web site -- so I ran HP UPDATE again. It downloaded and installed with no problems.
It should be simpler than this, but manually downloading worked well. |

Thanks to KAREN NOGROSKI !! Update worked perfect! By unchecking "Turn User Account Control on or off." you are actually turning user account control off. Turned off and ran HP Update -- downloaded and installed perfectly (the first time ever since owning this PC). Turned user account control back on.
Thanks again. |

Just wanted to say that I hate Vista! And HP isn't far behind. I am running 64 and have never had an HP update work. Thanks to kbennett65, right clicking and running as an Admin seemed to work. I think this is the cause of most of the insane issues I have been having with my new HP. Oh how I miss XP. |
