I keep getting error messages for this HP Update. I start installing the update, but it cancels and the error message reads "Installation Cancelled" - but I didn't cancel it. Please advise. I've already installed sp34794, sp36082 and nothing...

Please try these steps 1- Open Task Manager
2- Locate the process âHPADVISOR.exeâ, highlight it and then click on End Process and close the task manager.
3- Click Start -> All Programs -> HP -> HP Update or HP Software Update
4- Click on Next to scan for updates.
5- You will find a window with list of updates, uncheck all the updates except âHP update 4.0.10.8â and click next.
6- The update will try to install and you might get a message
âThe following application should be closed before continuing the Installationâ
The name of the application would be COM Surrogate (Process ID: XXXX) where XXXX is the event ID.
7- This window will have 3 options, Cancel, Retry & Ignore. Click on IGNORE
8- The installation process will continue and the HP Update 4.0.10.8 will be successfully installed. |

Try this:
Click Start-All Programs-Accessories Right click Command Prompt Click "Run as Administrator" At the prompt type, regsvr32 jscript.dll (be sure to type the space between the two strings.) hit enter
Follow same steps to
regsvr32 vbscript.dll file.
Restart the computer and try HP updates. It should work. |

In this case, it could be due to corrupt HP update software. Please try the following steps to uninstall and reinstall HP update.

Step 2:Reinstall HP updates software.
-From the Windows Vista desktop, click Start, All Programs, and then PC Help & Tools. -Click Recovery Manager.
The Recovery Manager Welcome screen appears.
-Click Next. -On the Software Program Re-installation screen select Yes, and then click Next. -On the Welcome screen click Next. -Select HP updates software to reinstall. -Click Next. -If the reinstallation was a success, a message about restarting the computer opens. Select Yes , and then click Finish to restart the computer.
Now, follow the steps provided below to reinstall HP updates:
1- Open Task Manager 2- Locate the process âHPADVISOR.exeâ, highlight it and then click on End Process and close the task manager. 3- Click Start -> All Programs -> HP -> HP Update or HP Software Update 4- Click on Next to scan for updates. 5- You will find a window with list of updates, uncheck all the updates except âHP update 4.0.10.8â and click next. 6- The update will try to install and you might get a message

I have been having problems here, too, though the error message I get says "Error occurred while handling a message". I tried the solutions that have been suggested, but couldn't get two of them to work - neither "HP Update" nor "HP Software Update" appears in the HP folder in my Start menu, and I don't see an option in my Control Panel to uninstall HP Update - and the other (running those two command prompt lines, then restarting) didn't seem to do anything at all.
I am running Windows Vista Home Premium on a Pavilion dv2000. Help? |

My model is 6710b but have similar problem regarding sp34794 (HP Software Update).
When i try installing I am told i already have a newer version installed. Add/Remove programs reports it is v4.000.001.006.
I used this software earlier today and it listed a few drivers that needed updating. I did not download them all. Now when i run the program it contradicts its earlier report and says all drivers are up-to-date. |

Hi I had the same problem and I solved it by unchecking all updates besides of 1. Let this one update and do the same with all otherr updates. Do this and it will work. It is very annoying to do it like that, but better than not updating important things. Please HP-People, solve this problem. |

I have the same "installation cancelled" message when HP Update tries to install any update. I am running Vista Ultimate 64. I have found that the problem is resolved by running HP Update as an administrator. |

I had the same problem on a TouchSmart 507 with Vista 64 Home Premium.
Selecting HP Update in start menu, right click, Run as Administrator allowed the update to run again and install the updates.
Not sure where the scheduled update is located or how to set that one to run as Adminstrator. |

I was getting the error too. The tip by the person recommending to kill the HPADVISOR.EXE also didn't work. However by killing all processes that started with hp i.e. hp*.exe from the task manager I was able to install the software updates. |

Had the same problem, also running Vista Ultimate 64. Robert's tip worked for me. In fact, by just running HP Update once as the administrator and by installing a new version of HP Update (4.0.12.1 in my case), the problem is now fixed. All the other updates now install when I start HP Update in the normal mode.
To run HP Update as administrator: Start -> HP, then right-click HP Update and select "Run as administrator". |

How's this for irony: I just tried downloading a bunch of updates, including a "fix for install cancelled problem." That "fix" and the other updates resulted in the usual "installation cancelled" message. I'm so tired of dealing with this software. This problem, combined with problems with trying to play music, have me extremely dissatisfied. |
