50% of the time if it is the lvps it can be repaired if you are handy with a solder iron. Go to the link below and download the service manual so you can remove the low voltage power supply. When you have it out you remove the big circut board from the unit and turn it over. There is a power transistor in the middle which may have the center pin having a cold solder joint. If it does just resolder the connection and put back together and you will be good to go. If the transistor on the end has two cold joints, it means that transistor is blown and needs to be replaced.

DAVID,
I have the same problem, I went to the link but it would not open a manual. I have the LJ 8150dn. I had a paper jam (using the duplex printer) 10 pages prior to the error message. I would like to solve the problem first with the soldier steps, but need to know what I am tearing up first.
thanks, deb |

First off you need to make sure the fuser is not the error. The way to tell is when you turn on the printer it will start to initialize and should go to warming up. If it shoots the 50.1 error before saying warming up then the low voltage ps is probably the cause. If it says warming up and then shoots the error, the fuser is the issue. Try the new link below.

David,
I have pulled the lvps and I can not find a Q600. I have found Q 606 and 607 which are black rectangular shaped. These 2 are close to the big black thing that is approx. 2 x 2 x 1 tall.
Also I found Q 603, and 604 which are smaller and they are up against the silver mounting bracket.
Thanks,
deb |

Deb,
I have not worked on one of these in a while because most I was encountering had the 2 cold joints on the other power transistor and it ended wasting to much time as we just got ourselves refurbished ones from our vendors. There are a number of power transistors attached to a long heat sink. The one I am referring to is somewhat in the middle and will only have 1 cold solder joint of the middle pin. You can spot it right away if that is your issue. If you have the circut board turned over and the power transistors closest to you and the furtherest chip to the left has two cold joints you can not fix it. The one that you can is sort of in the middle of the side closest to you. |

David, If the chip on the end has two cold solder joints, you indicated that the chip next to it is probably blown. I metered this chip and found it was shorted.?? Is it a diode array, or is something else? Can this part be purchased from somewhere? I did not recognize the part number printed on the part. Have you fixed these in the past? I thought that in another post, that you had repaired to the component level. Could you help? ^Thanks |

Sorry as I said in the post we no longer repair ourselves. We get them from metrofuser.com, partsnow.com or depot-america.com. When we did repair it was only if the middle chip had one cold solder joint. Never repaired the others. |
