We have a general problem with 49 on almost all our printer however this one particular unit is extremely bad. It seems everytime it gets a jam it gives a 49 error.
Last week we disconnected the output device because it looked like everytime we had an "output device disconnected" we would get 49 errors. Now it seems everytime we get a "external input device jam" 13.11.07 we also get a 49.ff09 error.
Our IT Printer supoprt has upgraded all the printer sofware to the current level. They also have been disabling unused protocols per other 49 error info we have found. This unit is so bad clients refuse to use it.
Is HP ever going to find the issue with 49 errors and issue a fix?

Hi. Ok.. long ongoing issues!!.. After supporting 600 devices of this type on our network I have decided on the following. 49.FFxx is usualy hard disk error, have you got secure erase anabled as this kills the hard disk. Can try a hard disk intialisation but if error returns soon after replace the hard disk! If you see 49.4c02 then the old off/on sorts this! try changing link speed from auto to 10TXhalf, are you on an old network infrastructure? are the switches loaded and very busy, check bad packets for evidence of this. Regards. Tony |

Removed the HD and still getting 49.ff01 and 49.ff09. Network guys have sniffed the line and tell me they see no unusual activity or errors etc. Anymore suggestions on what to try/change next? The users are asking us to replace the printer. They don't want to use it anymore. |

The 13.11.07 jams appear when feeding from tray4. Now 49.ff is an internal/external communication error, we normal get it when formatters fails to comunicate with the hard disk. It Could be bad comunicaiton when formatter recieves an error from tray4 (ie jam message), all Tray4 controls are managed by the Formatter! strange but true!..
Try this:
Reseat the formatter, ensure the tumbscrews are tightened securely.
If the problem continues then bypass power from Tray4 straight to the stacker unit, this will disable the tray4 but enable the stacker to still work. Use for a few days without tray4, if the error does not return then it could be the formatter or tray4 is failing, more likely formatter.
How often does the error appear? |

The stacker has already been disconnected because it seemed to giving 49 error everytime the stacker declared an error for being disconnected 65.12.99.
In 700 pages of print the error occurred 6 times. It always gives a date of 1970-jan-01 00:00.
I am beginning to beleive it is a formatter problem. |

Hi. 13.11.07 jams: check users are not dumping the paper into tray4, check for paper with bent corners/creases and remove.
Could be a formatter issue, reseat formatter and remove dust and consider replacing if errors continue after reseating. Regards Tony. |

This printer is at a remote site and Ihaven't been able to get there yet but I have more info. The printer is giving errors "49.4C06 Turn OFF then ON" and NOT recoding them in the error log file. |

Hello Has anyone got a fix for this? I've got a 9050 that has been doing this since we bought it, customer very unhappy. HP have had no idea what's causing it, and have replaced the formatter board, the 2000-sheet feeder & even the whole printer! But still we get the same messages. If anyone has insight I'd love to hear it. |

Just to recap. 13.11.xx are all tray4 related paper jams. 49.ff could indicate a failed hard disk. 49.4cxx/2cxx may indicate a firmware update is required to handle advance post script commands (when printing PDF documents). Use postscript print driver and update printer firmware for PDF printing. |

Hi TShine
Our 9050 has no hard disk installed & Mopier disabled. Updating (or downgrading) firmware had no effect, except sometimes giving us "Inflate Firmware" errors. 49 errors can happen half way printing a document, yet the doc will print fine after a reboot. Sometimes will also give an error while sitting quietly overnight.
Thanks for your reply. |

PS In the last few weeks there has been a new firmware which includes a fix because: "A 49.4C02 may be seen on the control panel when printing large PostScript Files." Hmm, I guess I'll have to give this one a try. |

Also make sure PDF docs are printed through a postscript driver otherwise the doc has to be translated from postscript (Which PDF files are) to PCL and translation errors can creep in also causing 49.xx errors, plus they print much faster too! Good luck. |
