We have approx 50 HP P3005 on our site, several of which are now squeaking - in some areas we have 10 printers, all squeaking loudly, driving our users crazy.

Any ideas?

Colin,

The best resouce I can find right now involves cleaning the paper path:
http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/Document.jsp?lang=en&cc=us&taskId=125&prodSeriesId=1846088&prodTypeId=18972&objectID=c00764922

Squeeking would mean that a moving part is rubbing against something somewhere on the printer. A good place to start is to replace the rollers. Here is a link to a site where you can order more rollers for the 3005 printer:
http://www.feedroller.com/Store/index.php?cPath=1_17_86_719

If changing the rollers doesnt help, then you are going to have to listen closely to where the squeeking is coming from. Try to isolate it and describe the area where the squeeking is coming from. I.e top, bottom, front, back, behind the cartridge etc.

Hi Colin, same name as my dad, you would find that the bushings in the fuser unit are causing the problem, this drives the pressure roller.

Thanks for your replies...

I've tried running a cleaning page through squeaky 3005 printers before and sometimes this works but our major fix is to replace the toner!

I know this is a strange fix but my employer insists on buying refilled/recycled toners (admittedly they are better for the environment) but we end up throwing out 10-15% of them due to the excessive squeaking from them in large work areas. Of course we never get the problem with new HP toners..but the refilled ones are cheaper...then we have to buy extra to replace them and it ends up more expensive!!

Colin,

Ive never heard the argument that refurbished toners are better for the enviornment. How does your boss know this is true?

I always suggest that our users purchase and use HP toners because they are mode stable and reliable (and under warranty) than the refilled ones. However, when you start talking about managing a entire fleet of 500+ printers, the costs savings for using refilled toners really starts to add up. Its hard to argue against the fact that its cheaper just to damage a few printers here and there in the game of overall company savings.
