I have an HP LJ P3005 that appears to have a bad ECU(engine control unit) board.
I have a spare ECU from a junk printer that I use for parts. However, if I install that one, it will overwrite the formatter board, and downgrade the printer model.
Is there any way for me to prevent this from happening? Is there a procedure to initialize this ECU, so that it will act like brand new? I understand a new one would have all values zeroed out, so the ECU would load data from the formatter board.
