Paper misfeed is getting progressively worse. Now it will feed only the top 10% of a full paper tray, then starts misfeeding. Has anyone seen this problem and fixed it?

Thanks, Bob

Bob,

Try cleaning the printer first. You can follow the steps from this document:
http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/Document.jsp?lang=en&cc=us&taskId=125&prodSeriesId=1845551&prodTypeId=18972&objectID=c00763856

Opening up the printer might help you identify any jams or faults inside the printer as well. Give these steps a shot and let us know how it goes.

Thanks

Cleaning the pickup roller appears to have fixed the problem. Its working now but the printer is much noisier that before. Is that normal?

Also, the HP Support Document containing the cleaning procedure is a bit confusing. Steps 7, 8, & 9 show the removed pickup roller with the white plastic rollers on each side, and a rod through the middle. The rod and white plastic side rollers are still in the printer. Only the pickup roller is removed.

Thanks, Bob

Bob,

Are the noises coming from where you cleaned the pickup roller?

It shouldnt be making any noise unless something wasnt snapped back into place. I admit that the instructions are a little confusing and I havent tried it personally for this model. However as long as you were able to get the basic idea you should be fine.

Pay special attention to the pickup roller and make sure that it is snapped into place with both of the retaining tabs. Try printing again and listening carefully to what and where the noise is coming from on the printer.

Thats my best guess unless you are better able to describe and isolate the noise from your printer.

One thing overlooked on this model is the paper level indicator on the left side of the paper tray. If is a horseshoe shaped plastic piece that fits into the metal bottom of the tray that springs up when the tray is loaded. Sometimes this piece does not sit properly and is like sitting on top of the metal piece instead of between it and it does not allow the tray to lift all the way up. You have to remove the front cover of the paper tray to reseat it if that is the case. Not hard to do as the front just clips on.

It seems fixed.

The noise was because I didn't have the pickup roller positioned properly.

The original problem was that the paper lift plate was not working because the paper was too tight in the tray. The back paper adjustment bar was out of position and not allowing the paper to elevate when less than full.

Thanks for the help.
Bob
