Author Subject: Installing a JetDirect 610N NIC in a LaserJet 4100      Add to my favorites

I have a LaserJet 4100N printer, sans Network Interface Card. I bought a JetDirect 610N card off eBay.

Are there any special instructions I should follow in installing this card in this printer? I have never had to install a card like this in this specific printer model; I did install a card like this in a 4050 a long time ago.

Thanks in advance.

Nothing special. Just make sure the power is off when you put the card in the EIO slot. If you have a router or switch take a rj45 cable and attach to the connection on the 610N and the other end to the switch or router. On the printer press the green button and at the same time turn on the power and continue to hold the green button down until cold reset appears in the menu and then release. When the printer comes to ready, wait about 2 minutes and the go to the information menu on the printer and select the second item of configuraton page and select. The printer should print 2 pages with the second page being the network pages showing the settings and hopefully containing a tcp/ip address obtain from the cold reset and then use that address to setup the printer.

Thank you.

I restarted and cold-reset the printer again after installing the NIC. Bingo! Everything seems to be working right. (I use Macintosh computers, and they detected the printer once it was plugged into an Airport Express WiFi base station via Ethernet cable.)
