I'm working for an IT department of a company. We have a problem with a user working in a laptop.
The process HPZinw12.exe takes a lot of % CPU (next to 100%) in a laptop. After that the system hangs...
User is working in the same place as the days before of the problem, so he doesn't move to a different network/location.
Could someone please help me with this problem?
I have configured a low priority for this process in Task Manager (but I don't know if this is the right solution). If I close the process, it starts again in some minutes...
I'll be waiting for answers...
Thanks a lot and regards!!!
Paco

I'm having the same problem. System worked fine until we loaded the HP 7310 printer and now 30 second delay between each request action. |

The process is no longer on our print server since term restarted. It is a school and it was Easter break so I can only presume a printer was left trying to print which has now been been stopped. Hope that may be of help. |

I have the same problem with my hp2510. The process hpzinw12.exe keeps taking 100%CPU. There certainly isn't anything queued for printing. I also have problems with hpqtra08.exe - this process causes my system to hang when attempting to shutdown. These are long-term problems and I'm surprised & disapointed that HP have not addressed them. I cannot believe these are isolated cases. |

I've noticed that the problem only occurs in my situation when the printer is powered off. It is setup using Cat5 cable. |

I have exactly the same issue with the HP 2510 printer and my laptop. the HPZINW12 wakes up every once in a while and consumes nearly 100% of the processor.
I have installed the latest driver patches and the problem occurs when the laptop cannot find the printer (i.e. I work on another network, printer off etc).
I also have the issue with the hpqtra08.exe not shutting down properly when I turn my ssytem off. |

I get the same problem too. hpzinw12.exe taking 100% cpu. Kill the process and it starts up again by itself after a little while.
Really annoying. Platform is Thinkpad, XP SP2, HP PSC 2510. Also have drivers for HP1320n installed. |

Has HP provided a solution to this? I have just bought a 2610 Photosmart All-in-one and have this problem. I've had to uninstall all the solution which leaves me with a printer, scanner, fax anc copier that doesn't work!!!

I have HP 2510 and getting exactly the same problem with my WinXP Desktop. HPZinw12.exe is eating up memory. HP should do something wbout this. Why it takes too long for HP just to respond to this complaint? |

I had to reinstall my HP7410 after a network change and now HPZinw12.exe takes up between 70 and 100% processor utilization and will even launch multiple instances. It turns our desktops into goo. I kill it and it comes back... I assign a lower priority and it still eats my proc. This is crazy - why is there no fix posted for this? |

In the Boston Globe today (2/13/06) they say
Tired of waiting for Windows XP to launch a lot of little utility programs every time you boot up? There's an easy way to skip all that. Click Start, then Run, and type the command msconfig. Up pops the System Configuration Utility. Click the Startup tab. There you'll see the programs that will start up when you boot up. You can tell the computer to skip any or all of them, thus making the occasional reboot a little quicker.
so do that. then select "services" tab. you will find "Pml driver HPZ12" deselct it (click on the box and remove the check mark), then apply, and cancel. restart machine. the problem program will not start on the machine restart.
on restart you will be asked if you want to continue with the changes (yes) and the msconfig window will be open (cancel it). |

I dealt with the HP Online technician support process, and what they had me do was just to disable HPWuSchd2, hpqtra08.exe (HP Digital Imaging Monitor), and hpqthb08.exe -s (HP Image Zone Fast Start) from starting at startup.
It does seem to work, and the printer still appears to print and scan fine.
There is something rather disturbing with a "solution" to software problems of just don't run the software (so why was it automatically installed?), but anyway...
It disables automatic updates, and the little green checkbox in the system tray to show that the printer is OK. Not sure what else. If nothing else, that is 3 less processes chewing up resources.... |

This continues to be a problem. I sent a note to the HP CEO about it and received courteous responses from the Executive Office.
BUT . . . no solution! Clearly neither the HP software engineers or the CEO are not using this software on their PCs. If they were, we would see a fix.
I will set the priority to low, but would prefer a real solution.
Thanks for the tip. |

I have the same problem on only one of my dell computers, the 4600C. Of course this is my wifes machine and she screams at me that her computer is as slow as molasses.
Is there any fix for this problem? She also has an HP 970 camera and uses the transfer solution. |

Any solution here? My wife has the same problem on her HP laptop. (and no...I don't want get a new wife, although I'm sure that might be one of the support desk solutions from what I've seen so far!)
She can't understand why HP support can't figure this out. It's not like its not repeatable. Sounds like HP just wants to ignore this until we quit complaining.
This obvisously needs a better solution than disabling the software. |

I was researching the file HPZipm12.exe and HPZinw12.exe and found this forum.
I had to reload my Norton I/S software and it prompted me to "block" both of these programs, so I did. I have not had any problems as of yet and have been able to print. You might try going into your Internet Security software and put a block on these two files to see if this helps. You can always unblock them if it doesn't.

In reply to what Jason Taylor Apr 21, 2005 09:40:43 GMT "...These are long-term problems and I'm surprised & disapointed that HP have not addressed them...."
it is because they can't do anything because their computers are so slow with all of their own software. they should test to make sure that no new software has the same problems. I have an all in one printer/coppier/scaner and i have the same problem this has been going on for too long Bill |

To resolve this issue, which is related with the toolbox of ll in one..
use the available network patches on the HP website link
http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/static_software_select?cc=US&lc=EN
In the HP software download page, select your country.
In the select a task section add a mark in the checkbox next to software & driver downloads field.
In the enter product number section, type the model of your All-In-One unit (for example, HP Officejet 7410).
Select your operating system and then click on HP Full Feature software/driver: Network Support patch.
Run the patch in the Pc and then restart the computer.
==== If it not solve the issue :
Then DO this to add these files in the firewall exception .
Click Start, then Control Panel. (Click Start, Settings, then Control Panel if you are in Classic Start menu mode).
Click Security Center.
Scroll to the bottom of the new window.
Click Windows Firewall.
Click the Exceptions tab.
Click Add Program.
Click Browse.
Select C:\Program Files\HP\Digital Imaging\bin\hpqtra08.exe.
Click OK.
Click OK.
Close all open windows.
=========
Hope it should solve the issue.

Well, I just tried the update per the Oct 25th post, and the behavior changes, but is no better..... Now instead of taking all the idle cycles of the CPU, the processor is free, but it adds 30 seconds or so to the start time of every single application I launch.
Basically, having the printer software running acts just like having domain problems (see http://blogs.technet.com/markrussinovich/archive/2006/08/31/453100.aspx). It also creates events in the event log everytime I try to do anything - The Pml Driver HPZ12 service was successfully sent a start control, then The Pml Driver HPZ12 service entered the running state, then The Pml Driver HPZ12 service entered the stopped state. Also some security log entries. Killing the digital imaging monitor got rid of the 30 second delay to start everything, as well as the system event log entries.....
Going back to not running any of those processes (per my Mar 2 entry above), is the only thing working.... |

I had the same problem but with a Laser Jet 2300. It is attached to the network using a NetGear PS121 USB print server. Everything was going along fine until I updated the drivers for the printer then I started getting 99 to 100 % CPU usage by HPZinw12.exe.
I had tried killing the process but it just re-spawned itself. I have tried deleting the printer and changing drivers and all that but nothing worked until I tried this.
1) Paused the printer 2) Killed HPZinw12.exe 3) Left the printer paused!!!
Continued printing with the printer even though it showed paused.
Now HPZinw12.exe spawns and dies at regular intervals and never accumulates CPU. |

I have an Officejet 6310 just installed on a WinXP Pro SP2 laptop (HP Omnibook) with very similar problems.
With printer on and network connected, everything's fine. With printer off, something running under one of the SVCHOST processes takes 80-90% of CPU cycles (resulting in 100% usage).
HPZinw12 process shows 0% so perhaps I have a different problem, but the similarities to the problems posted above are eerie.
Here's a discussion people were having about similar issues three years ago:
http://www.howtofixcomputers.com/bb/ftopic58970-0-asc-15.html
This is a deal breaker for me; battery life at 100% CPU is like an hour or so, basically rendering laptop useless.
HP Phone support suggestion so far is to uninstall software in order to prove to them I don't have a virus... if I do, it arrived during the very same hour that their software CD was installing in my computer!

The previous entry was not helpful--I disabled virus and firewall when I installed.
For me, the problem was nevertheless with my firewall. I gave "trusted" server rights to HP Digital Imaging Monitor, HP CUE Status, HP Extended Capabilities, and PML Driver (for me, this was HPZipm12.exe), and this seems to have solved the problem. |

Well, disregard my previous post (both of them since there are duplicates). It ran better for a but then CPU usage went right back up.
But now I have found a real cure, thanks to someone on another forum.... The problem was a conflict between the HP PhotoSmart software and the software for my Canon digital camera, called Digital Photo Professional.
The solution was to uninstall all of the HP Photosmart software and Canon's Digital Photo Professional (you don't have to uninstall the other Canon utilities). Then reinstall DPP first, followed by the HP software. I've had no more problems since, no matter how long I leave the computer on. What a relief!!
Good luck.

On my laptop, it appears that the problem is that the digital imaging system keeps trying to ping the printer when I am not on the same network. I just shut it down at that point. It *would* be nice if when it couldn't find the printer after a while it showed a task bar notification or something and gave you the option of temporarily disabling the check/closing it- but this worked. |

hi, i did find a solution for that, you need to download a "process explorer" from the website, just search for it using google. guaranteed 90% it works! install the software, right click on the program that is eating up your cpu and select debug. |
